In response to the recent earthquake in Haiti, Planet Earth
has mobilized its energy and resources to the region. It's
an unprecedented humanitarian outpouring of aid, but all
aid of all kinds will be in short supply and in high demand for
years to come. In an effort to bring an aid of a different kind
to the kids down there, I joined up with Gary Allegretto and
his Harmonikids Foundation on a musical aid mission to Port
Au Prince, the heart of the disaster region. The goal: to deliver
hope, joy and the basic act of being a kid again in the form
of music, harmonicas. When we were there, it was the only kind
of aid actually getting out and helping the Haitians at the moment.
In association with Pocket Full of Soul, Groove Gallery, and a solid
group of family, friends, fans and strangers who helped make the
trip possible, I'm honored to have been part of something that works
so closely with the soul. It was instense, physically and emotionally. -ml
